Anyone else growing tomatoes?

Thu Apr 28, 2016 5:51 am

Anyone else here growing tomatoes this year? What tomatoes did you choose? There are so many different types to choose from.. I'm growing Balkonstar and Bitonto. They were supposed to be small enough for my Balcony, but now I'm starting to wonder.. ;)

Yes! I have some Tomato Plants coming. :-)

Trying a Cherry Tomato called 'Vilma' - it's supposed to be a small variety and I've been growing it indoors since november, and have also started some Plants that are ready to move outdoors soon. I had to cut the top of the indoor plant. Don't really want it to get higher than 80 cm.

Also have one or two plants each of:
- Orange Berry
- Buffalo Steak
- Hanging Tomato Tumbling Tom
- Costoluto Fiorentino
- Red Pear
- Ildi
- Sungold (f1)
- Tigrella
- San Marzano
- Ola Polka

And then I have my three plants that I'm growing from Tomato Slices.

Realizing now that this really is a lot of Tomatoes.. Hmm..

I have quite a few for a beginner going as well. But I wanted to see what was "Heather-hardiest" as well as what was best for my actual zone (being 8b)

I've got the following growing:

Brandywine

Black Krim

Super Snow White

Isis cherry

Ananas noire

Yellow pear

Sweet 100

Siberian

Early girl

Hey. It's all science right?

I am also growing Sweet 100 and Early Girls. Is your Early Girl's main stem getting bent?

How is all of your Tomatoes doing by now? I'm totally in love with my Tomato Vilma, and will Plan a full Framed Bed for it next year. Which ones are your favourites so far? (Or is it to early to tell?)

Soooo many choices, sooo many seeds to plant, this is the best time, so far no mistakes, excitement running high for the spring... I do not know about anyone else but my seeds are sprouting and just for fun I got a mini hydroponic set up going for a week now.
As for types, I stick with heirloom, but this year I am trying a couple of early hybrids, just trying to ease out of my self imposed box.

Choices for huge,
Elephant..really ugly but great taste, parks whopper and brandywine has a huge following but a looong growing season, 80-90 days I believe.
Early girl bush, small size, quick, long season producer I think 55-60 days
White? No clue on that one
