Growing a Fatalii Jigsaw in a DWC Bucket

Sat Jan 23, 2016 11:47 am

We were given a Fatalii Jigsaw seedling, germinated in a rock wool cube by one of our customers, so we decided to see how it would perform in a DWC drip bucket. As most people that are familiar with very hot chillis know, the Carolina Reaper is the current "Hottest Chilli in the World" as awarded by the Guinness World Records, but the Fatalii Jigsaw is reported to be hotter! However, we won't know until it has been lab tested. Fun to grow but a bit too hot for us!!

The DWC bucket is a 20 litre bucket with a mesh bucket lid. The bucket lid was filled with clay pebbles. Inside the bucket is a small pump which feeds water from the bucket to a watering ring, which is placed on top of the clay pebbles, with the the seedling placed in the middle. We use Dutch Pro nutrients in the water and just top up the bucket from pouring in fresh nutrient and water mix through the clay pebbles. The bucket has a level indicator so we can see when the water level is getting low. The plant is currently in a Bud Box grow tent under a 600w lighting kit.

Ohhhh.. that's a hot chilli! How old are those plants? I sometimes get the feeling that hotter chilli grows more slowly than other types of chillies..

They are 5 months old. I wasn't expecting them to grow, flower and fruit so quickly due to how hot they are. We grew a Carolina Reaper the same way and it took 9 months to do the same. We are in the UK, so obviously growing in a tent is a huge benefit with our growing season - especially last year, it was awful!
