My tomato slices

Thu Jul 07, 2016 5:57 pm

I just began on July 5th. I wanted to grow cherry toms so I cut 2 slices of two of mine. I will stay updated as soon as I can.

I am growing two slices. Are they supposed to be gooey/almost moldy? Is there not enough soil? Anyway no sprouts yet.

Make some holes in the plastics to make sure that it's "breathing" a bit. The slices should be covered with about 1 cm of soil. It will take some more time until it sprouts. Keep us posted! :)

Yes! I'm catching up on them right now! Great posts. Really love the post on How to get Tomato Seeds and also the post on your Magical Recepie. Great that you enjoy the forum, and I'm really glad that you want to share and discuss with us. I try to post the progress I'm making, and also the failures that I learn from. It's great to share with other garden enthusiasts and I learn a lot at the same time as I come on this forum. :)

Tue Jul 26, 2016 3:15 am

Ok so I planted this like 3 weeks ago or more... I TOTALLY forgot about it. :( Oops! But when I looked at it today I was welcomed with the friendly leaves of new plants . I am SO happy because my other time I tried it, it dried out!!

I have replanted them to a separate pot. I planted them together is that okay? They are really small so I decided it would be easier to replant them before they established large roots. I plan to separate them again in about a week or two. I want them relatively small so the replanting wouldn't be so stressful for the little seedlings. I am just SO happy. Im a bit surprised that it took so long for them to grow.. But I am grateful! :) I belive the varitey is Early Girl, which provides an awesome medium ish tomato. I will stay updated! Is anyone else planting tomatoes at this time of year?

I fear they won't grow during fall... I hope the seeds still in the other pot will grow too. I really like tomatoes and I love having fresh tomatoes every day!

That looks great Ava! Congratulations! :-) I merged this topic with your previous post to have visitors following the full journey. Keep us posted in this topic as these Tomatoes grow. If you plan to grow them indoors you should put a light on them. A regular Lamp would be fine to start with.

Yes, it will be better than nothing. :-) Make sure not to place it to close to the plant if it's a lamp that is getting hot - it might burn the plant if it's to close.

I have found myself with a bit of tomato overload! I had my Sweet 100 tomato seeds germinating in my jar that I was saving them in. I put them in soil and they too have sprouted. :)

I'm always getting overloads to! Where do you plan to keep them when they grow bigger?
