Troubleshooting Aloe Vera

Sat May 27, 2017 3:39 pm

Hi! New to forum so bear with me.

I transplanted this aloe plant 3 weeks ago and it doesn't look good. It's mostly in the sun and im watering a little everyday. Any ideas?
Should I trim off outer leaves and can I grown a new plant from them?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Ps. I'm in zone 6. Hot and dry.ImageImage

Aloe plants don't like direct sunlight.. They turn brownish in colour, Keep it indirect lighting.. And it should go back to green.. Also you shouldn't water it everyday.. Once a week.. If need be.. Good luck!

Also I think your soil looks like clay soil? They like more of a sandy soil...
If you want babies come take mine.. Lol.. But usually they start growing around the mommy plant.. Like weeds.. Lol

I keep mine in the shade with my cacti and succulents! It is able to get plenty of light but does not care for the sun at all. How was your day?

Well the ski lesson is done for today! It was fun. What is the weather in your neck of the woods? It is blister'in hot here today! Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday they are calling for rain which we need really bad. It is so dry. We love to camp too! Lot's of fun for sure!

Hi there, Aloe will easily "sunburn". They like bright light but not direct sun. I've burned up several aloe plants but within a weeks time of moving them back to shade, they were bright green again. I also like to add a good helping of pumice to the dirt of all my succulents and aloe plants. It's great for retaining water (I only water mine 1 time over the winter!) and allows your plant's roots to breath freely below the soil. (General Pumice is my go-to brand. They have a good variety of sizes to order. I personally like #8) Hope this helps your troubleshooting a little.

I live in Bahrain and we have a MASSIVE Aloe Vera. It's not in direct sun all day, but does get a lot of very hot sunlight. It's in a big pot (over 3ft tall) with an agave. It doesn't suffer.

So just saw your post,
Well let me post the alovera's which we have- the first one has been growing since I was 6 (now I'm nearly 18) and the second one was just given to us by someone who had placed them on there terrace for more than a year with very less or no watering.
Well, I guess they recover from being dehydrated very easily after just watering them once a week.
In my case this is India, the climate is generally humid as we're expecting light shower for our mangoes though it is summer
