Winter Sowing in a Cold Frame?

Fri Jan 08, 2016 5:52 am

Hi guys! Have you ever tried winter sowing i a Cold Frame? I'm thinking about trying it for the first time this year. (If it's not to late?). Any tips, pointers or experiences?

I think winter sowing is a good way to get an earlier harvest in the spring. I'll do my winter sowing in a few weeks - like mid/end of january when it's still frozen and snow where i live. I just place a layer of soil (a few centimeters) on the frozen ground - spread the seeds on it - cover with a thin layer of soil again and then place snow on top. Cover with a cold frame, plastic frame or just an old glass window. I will winter sow rocket salad, lettuce, radishes and carrots. Will probably also try to winter sow carrots in a bucket - just for fun.
